Learn A Language!  I Will Say No More.

I have just embarked on a journey of learning a language.  In fact, I have decided to study several languages using an online application.

I have tried this before…without good results.  I quit too soon. This time, I seem to be hanging in there a bit longer, and I am reaping some benefits I didn’t expect.

I am not fluent at any level in any new language at this point. But after a few short weeks of practicing, I am experiencing something I didn’t expect…a more well-rounded, cultured feeling about the world, and feeling about myself.

I can’t cite one specific feeling, emotion or quality; but what I can say is that there is an appreciation that is evolving for every country whose language I am studying.

And I am not going with just the common ones…Spanish, French, etc.  There is Chinese, Russian, Arabic, and a must, based on my heritage…Swedish.

Don’t believe everything you hear about a particular language…how tough it is, or “you will never learn that language.”  It is actually not that difficult, once you get going.

And let me tell you, if I can hang in there for a few weeks, you can too.  And don’t let the app put pressure on you, either.  Go at your own pace as the app allows for.

It really is great…particularly if you are not bound to learn the language due to some job requirement.  You go at your own pace.

English is not the only language in the world.  It will open your eyes and mind to the not only thinking differently with your words.  It will give you an appreciation for how others are speaking in other countries, and I think, draw you closer to how they live and flow in the arena of life.

It is really good stuff…particularly if it is something you just take up yourself…on your own terms.

With that, I say good-bye…adios…do svidaniya…zai jian…au revoir…auf Wiedersehen…adjo.

Email Consumption

I am constantly checking my email.  I have more than four email accounts. Do not ask me why…😊. There are three accounts that I go to daily, and it leads to toggling that borders on consuming. Actually, it is consuming. Note:  It would be two accounts if the service provider would merge my old one […]

Do you think of love as an area of your life you have to attend to?  Do you regularly check in and see if it is registering with the people around you…how you treat them…how you model that behavior?  Is it an area where people feel the difference when you enter a room?   As the […]
